An Ohio State graduate and former starter on the offensive line for the Buckeyes, Peterson returned to his alma mater in April, 2004, in the dual role of tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator. He has established himself as an excellent position coach as well as an outstanding evaluator of talent.

A native of Middletown, Ohio, Peterson was a four-year letterman for the Buckeyes between 1987 and 1990, starting at guard as a senior. During his tenure, the Buckeyes made trips to the Cotton, Hall of Fame and Liberty bowls.

Peterson was a high school All-American at Middletown and was named as the state’s big school offensive lineman of the year as a senior in 1986. He also broke the 28-year-old Middletown High School shot put record that had been held by Ohio State’s legendary basketball All-American Jerry Lucas. John was inducted into the Middletown High School Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Butler County Hall of Fame in 2007.

Peterson and his wife, Michelle, a native of Middletown and a graduate of Ohio University, have two sons, Austin and Cole. Michelle’s uncle, Jerry Harkrader, played football for the Buckeyes in the mid 1950s.
